Host migration & Site Upgrade

After 4 site migration to a new host box & 3 site migration to a new host and so far no major issues, I think I’m having a good Thanksgiving Holiday!

Finally got around in moving my personal site to a faster(?) and more reliable(?) hosting company.  But I’ll post the rest of this journey later on..

New Host Blu Ost

Eto nnaaahh!!
Nag-signup na ako sa bluhost to check them out kung ok nga. Mas marami  itong options at features na inoofer. The cpanel looks slick too. One  of the nice feature is that shell access. Pero I think the speed has  been degraded becuz shared hosting nga at ska looks very susceptible  sa atake ng mga tulisan.  May Fantastico rin sila to auto install  some GPL softwares like bloggers, CMS, and various open source  applications. Tamang tama sa mga no-frills users na concentrate lang sa usage  and not worry about installation and compatibility issues na kamukha ko
na sadista pagdating sa ganitong bagay. I always get side track sa pag  sosolve ng installation issues rather than the end results.

Security issues finally resolved.

Wow! After almost a year (see my tag under site development)in battling this security issue with my host I finally won! Thanks for the help in the joomla forum and to one of the joomla heroes! The tech department of my host couldn’t (or wouldn’t) give me a simple answer or instructions on how to do it. But anyways, moving forward, I’m sticking with them for a while. (well after paying more than $30 for a domain renewal) and after I get my money’s worth then I’ll move to a cheaper host.

This site was also hjck 2 weeks ago from those @#$%&# guys at Norway.  I was a victim from a joomla extention with a security leak that does a drive-by upload. My homepage was defaced for a few days but managed to catch it on time but not sooner cuz’ some search engine already index that page! sucks! now my domain has been tainted. $#^&$%#% you  %^&^%*%^$#!!!!

So far I like seeing my joomla back-end menu without the nagging security notice. ahhhhhh..success…

WordPress migration project no.2-revisited

Just had a rude awakening this weekend. I was just doing it the hard way! If only I had stopped and planned what I was doing i could have save myself hours of misery and dispair.  WordPress is an awesome software that I just didn’t have enough common sense to look and see that it has it’s own import & export feature! Duuhhhhh!! That’s why i was coming up with less than nil on the google search on the query for wordpress database importing problem…because there shouldn’t be any problem! ayyaayaayyy!  So these were the steps that I took to port over or you can tag it as - how to make a mirror site out of my wordpress blog;

  • backup all your wordpress files & folders
  • backup your data using the wp internal export feature (creates an xml file)
  • create a new sql database on your new host
  • ftp your wp backup files & folder to your new host (or do a fresh install)
  • update the config file pointing to your new sql database
  • once you are in the admin screen do an import using your xml backup
  • copy all the plugins to the new host.
  • and you’re all done!

of course some people have shorter ways to do this but this is just my general idea.. and I’m just happy that I have another reason to keep my 1and1 hosting.

wordpress migration project no.2

2 points!
Got the wordpress migration project working on the new host. Tried to work it out on one&one dot com but I’m having problems in importing the sql file to the new host database. Getting too frustrating just trying to figure out the error messages that myphpadmin gives out.
Go dad dot com on the other hand imports easily with just a few minor tweaks on the raw sql file.

Same prelim task just like the joomla migration project. ftp the whole folder from the old to the new host and create a new database.

Last project.. Coppermine photo gallery port over!
Hmmm.. Maybe next week or so… Want to enjoy my weekend…

Joomla component Gallery2

Been a good day today! Installed 2 gallery components on my joomla
powered site and both works! It was planning to pick 1 but now I don’t have
the heart to uninstall these 2 working programs!
You can call me a compulsive application installer.

May 2
Damn it! Spoke too soon! Now I’m having problems with the damn
component!  The stupid thing won’t show my uploads!!!!

site porting over new host-revisited to the 10th power!

I am at it again! still trying to figure out how to transfer my joomla site to a different host with more security features.

I have overcome the mysql problems and have successfully restored my database to the new host. (that was after 5 tries and 2 movie breaks)

found out what the new hosting place absolute path is (use HELP in control panel..jezzzz…)

got a hint to edit the cfg file to recognize the new setting..

…to be continued…

after a couple of hours…

well..the whole damn thing finally worked! exact duplicate of my main site! yes!  And the freakin’ error message doesn’t show up on the backend menu.  The help instructions in the joomla forum actually works.  It just looks simple now that I have done and gone over it. Now I’ll try to play around on the wordpress & coppermine port over. maybe next month or so…

Good Friday – Biyernes Santo – upgraded to WordPress 2.1.3

Pinauwi kami ng maaga today in the spirit of good friday.

trying a new strategy from those Isulong SEOPH blog tips. I had the default setup before whereas the permalink uses numbers and symbols ( i used to call them characters). Now trying to see if the new permalink using the numerical date and post title combo will pull through. Still working on a good category scheme.

Consolidation

Biyak na talaga utak ko. I was trying to find an easy way to migrate my blog from this host to another host but too much hassle! Too much domain to manage kaya pinag-isa ko na lang yung z-nano.com at zeenanoko.com/blog. Dati maraming time to kill pero lately super tambak na trabaho ko. I need to update my profile din sa www.technorati.com at pati na rin siguro sa www.360.yahoo.com
